  • 3 cups plus 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 cups granny smith apples, peeled and diced
  • 5 tbsp granulated sugar (for coating)
  • 1 1/2 tbsp ground cinnamon (for coating)
  • 1 3/4 tsp ground nutmeg (for coating)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix together flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, use an electric mixer to cream butter with both sugars until fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time and mix in vanilla until smooth.
  5. Gradually combine dry ingredients with wet ingredients; stir until just mixed.
  6. Fold in diced apples gently.
  7. In a separate bowl, mix sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg for coating.
  8. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough, roll into balls, then coat in sugar mixture before placing on baking sheets.
  9. Bake for about 8 minutes or until edges are set; let cool on wire racks.
