  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (cut into about 8 pieces)
  • 4 ounces dark chocolate (finely chopped)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs (whisked)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup pumpkin puree (NOT the entire can)
  • 1 cup evaporated milk (NOT the entire can)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon ginger powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (AKA cornflour)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (170°C). Line an 8×8 inch baking pan with aluminum foil and lightly grease it.
  2. In a mixing bowl, melt together unsalted butter and chopped dark chocolate until smooth. Stir in granulated sugar and then add whisked eggs one at a time.
  3. Sift in flour, cocoa powder, and salt; fold gently to combine.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together pumpkin puree, evaporated milk, egg, vanilla extract, brown sugar, spices, and cornstarch until smooth.
  5. Pour half of the brownie batter into the prepared pan, followed by the pumpkin layer. Dollop remaining brownie batter on top and swirl gently with a knife.
  6. Bake for approximately 50 minutes until set. Allow cooling before cutting into squares.
